Waste materials are not refuse.
The subject of recycling is one given particular attention in several respects at ANKER-TEPPICHBODEN. Our own production remnants, waste and surplus materials are recycled and fed back into the production process in different ways. Almost 100% of all yarn remnants from polyamide 6 material are passed onto a recycling process as part of a recycling programme that has been strongly pushed by ANKER-TEPPICHBODEN. The fibre manufacturer Aquafil collects these yarn remnants and processes them into the recycling fibre “Econyl”, which is currently the only fibre on the market to be certified by Norske Veritas.
Any carpet waste not composed of polyamide 6 is processed by specialist firms as part of downcycling to make various synthetic products.
Shearings that amass in different finishing processes are put to use as fillers in the construction industry.
Disposal of old carpets using thermal recovery represents a considerable energy resource. The calorific value of synthetic carpets is close to that of heating oil. These carpets can be processed to generate energy in incineration plants. The thermal solution using old carpets seems to be perfectly logical, above all because otherwise heating oil is normally used in incineration plants of this kind to maintain operation. With today’s incineration technology, incineration is possible that emits significantly less pollutants than in the combustion of natural raw materials in the fireplaces of private homes.
